• PCs are relatively very cheap.
• Easy for relative novice to install.
• PCs are very modular and parts are easy to replace.
• PCs are easily expandable/upgradable.
• Up to a point, PCs are standardised and backward compatible.
• Large amount of expertise/help available.

DOS/MS-Windows Software

Despite many limitations:

• Easy for relative novice to install.
• Supports and wide range of peripherals (printers, video cards, etc).
• Pre-compiled executables are pretty much guaranteed to run in some form or another. Many have user friendly installation programs.
• Relatively uncomplicated operating system.
• Standardized and backward compatible.
• Large amount of expertise/help available.
