Neutron Backscattering Spectrometer Instrument Responsible

The Jülich Center for Neutron Science (JCNS) at the Solid State Division (IFF) of the Research Center Jülich (FZJ) searches for a physicist (PhD) as the second instrument responsible of the new neutron backscattering spectrometer SPHERES at the Research Reactor FRM II in Munich.

Her/his main technical tasks will be the optimization of all components, the further technical development and the creation of Software for data analysis. All these activities take place in close cooperation with the infrastructure departments of the Research Center in J=FClich. As the second instruments responsible she/he will be also responsible for user operation. In this context own research activities within the research program of the institute: centred on soft matter and polymer physics are very much encouraged.

We expect from the applicant completed universities studies including a PhD in physics, interest in scientific and technical problems, ability for cooperation and collaboration, mobility (contact to other institutions and companies, experiments at other neutron sources), preferable some experience with neutron scattering, if possible in neutron instrumentation as well as some knowledge in scattering theory and soft matter physics. The salary follows the scheme of the public service, the position is limited for 3 years.
