The lithium manganese oxide systems ahve been extensively studied
because of their potential use in batteries. It is extremely unlikely
that you would have any chance of determining manganese oxidation. It is
even difficult to determine the difference between spinel L1Mn2O4 and
layered Li0.5MnO2, where the oxygen is ccp in both cases. Jeff Dahn at
Dalhousie and others have publsihed extensively in this area.
