As for myself, I am a strong supporter of the 1-st option. Our mailing list
proved to be very helpfull to everyone (beginner and advanced) working in
the field of solid state crystallography and powder diffraction techniques.
Going back to 1995 one can see that the most frequent practical questions
and discussions were related to the solid state materials: inorganic,
metallurgical products, ceramics, minerals, etc. It cleary defined out the
scientific interest for the main part of us ("the Rietvelders").
Joining the bionet was obviously not a good idea.
Regarding No. 2 option (moving to IUCr site), I could not understand why we
should do that and is it worth to change the site for getting "automatic
archiving and possible future newsgroup acces"?
My opinion: Our mailing list is one of the best acting scientific team in
the net.
If it is possible, do not touch (change) it!
