[sdpd] Vacancy in scientific programming

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMMER IN DATA ANALYSIS (3 years Fixed-Term)
ISIS Facility, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire

ISIS is the world's leading pulsed neutron source. The ISIS Data Analysis
Group is embarking upon a major update of an extensive crystallographic
software library and a new member of staff is required to help design and
program a modern, flexible and easily maintained package.

The postholder will be expected to interpret the scientific needs of the new
library and develop the necessary algorithms to implement these
requirements. Programming will be done in C++ under Windows NT and Unix.

The candidate should have a first degree in Physics, Chemistry, or a related
discipline. An ability to develop mathematical algorithms is essential,
together with a good working knowledge of C++ and the Standard Template
Library. Familiarity with X-ray and neutron crystallography, coupled with a
strong background in both software and hardware aspects of computing is
required. Experience in building GUI interfaces, particularly with the Qt
object library is desirable.

The post is for a fixed term period of three years. The salary range is
between £18,620 and £26,600 (pay award pending). A non-contributory pension
