[sdpd] XRDU:RIET: ACA2004 session on "Advances in Computing Environments for Crystallography"

The American Crystallographic Association 2004 meeting (under the
auspices of the ACA General Interest Group SIG) is having a session
titled: Advances in computing environments for crystallography.  As
this is a relatively non-standard session, information is also being
posted here inviting people working within the remit of this topic
to consider submitting an abstract either for an oral talk or poster.

The ACA 2004 meeting is scheduled for the 17th to 22nd of July, 2004 in 
Chicago, USA and the conference webpage is at:

Session Synopsis:

Modern crystallography is undeniably dependent on access to adequate
computing resources. New options for cheap(ish) clustered computing and
GRID computing allow for real-time or near-real-time modelling or
refinement of complex systems including macromolecules. In addition, the
massive ammounts of data generated need to be effectively shared
creating a need for accessible networks, which in turn create issues
with data/network security. People are invited to submit abstracts on
this topic for the ACA 2004 meeting, for either oral or poster
presentation.


Welcome abstracts for talks or posters include (but are not limited to):

  - Real-time visual macromolecular refinement
  - Modelling in real-time to match data collection rates
  - Crystallographic Computation using the GRID
  - Cost effective cluster computing using Linux and/or Beowulf
  - Super computing power applied to crystallography
  - Computer security
  - Networking issues
  - PC Computers optimised for Graphics Intensive 3D Gamers, but 
    applied to crystallography.
  - Virtual reality hardware systems applied to Crystallography
  - Crystallographic Computing on a Chip - integrated circuitry 
     optimised for crystallographic number crunching.
  - Crystallographic Collaboratory hardware for shared data analysis
