Can't you just take (h,k,i,l) = (h,k,-h-k,l) ?

You can also have a look at:
http://www.esrf.fr/UsersAndScience/Experiments/MaterialsScience/ID11/ID11UserGuide/ID11Dhkl/ID11Dhkl

It is very far from complete (no handling of space groups) and might
contain bugs. But if you select hexagonal it will print the 'i' indices.
Sadly it might be using a bad asymmetric unit when it does that.
