A full-time service crystallographer is sought for the School of
Chemistry at the University of Sydney, one of the main centres for
chemical research and education in Australia, with access to a
comprehensive range of modern research and teaching facilities. The
crystallographic facility is well equipped with an APEX-II Kappa FR591
rotating anode system and a SMART 1000. Supporting equipment includes a
Cryostream 600, a Cryostream 700 and a HeliX.
The appointee will assess crystals, undertake data collections,
structure determination and refinement, database maintenance and
contribute to manuscript preparation. Duties will also include periodic
maintenance tasks such as tube replacement, filament replacement, anode
cleaning and instrument alignment. Experience in crystal structure
analysis is essential, and equipment maintenance experience would be an
advantage. Excellent communication, collaboration, team and
organisational skills are essential, and a PhD in chemistry or closely
related field is desirable.
The position is full-time, initially for one year subject to the
completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There
is the possibility of subsequent renewals up to 31 December 2009. The
successful applicant is expected to commence duties as soon as possible.
Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition
of employment for new appointees. Applicants should be Australian
citizens or be eligible for a work visa appropriate to the position.
Successful applicants will be asked to provide proof of Australian
citizenship or a valid work visa appropriate to the term of the
position. References or contact details for at least three referees
should be provided.
Appointment will be offered at HEO Level 7 or 8 according to
qualifications and experience. Copies of the HEO7 and HEO 8 duty
statements are available on request. A contribution to relocation costs
may be offered.

Remuneration package: up to $66,408 - $72,346 p.a. (which includes a
base salary Level 7 $56,116 - $61,134 p.a., leave loading and up to 17%
employer contribution to superannuation).
Remuneration package: up to $74,327 - $83,827 p.a. (which includes a
base salary Level 8 $62,808 - $70,835 p.a., leave loading and up to 17%
employer contribution to superannuation).
