[sdpd] New crystallographic database for non-organics: Pearson's Crystal Data CD-ROM

Dear members of the SDPD list,

a new crystallographic database for non-organics will become available in
July 2007: The "Pearson's Crystal Data CD-ROM". The "PCD" (as it is
typically abbreviated) is published by ASM International
(http://www.asminternational.org) and contains crystal structures of a large
variety of inorganic materials and compounds.

The first version will already contain 150,000 structural data sets
(including atom coordinates and displacement parameters, when determined)
for more than 95,000 different phases, roughly 12,000 experimental powder
diffraction patterns and about 130,000 calculated patterns (interplanar
spacings, intensities, Miller indices).

The PCD database comes with an innovative retrieval software for Windows PCs
developed by Crystal Impact. It offers a large variety of elaborate new
features which make retrieval of the desired information extremely easy.

Unlike competitive products, the PCD database is purchased only once with
unlimited usage time. Periodic updates will become available every year;
they can be purchased optionally.

More information about the database (including a detailed function list as
well as licensing and pricing information) is available from

Crystal Impact exhibits at the DGK conference in Bremen (March 05-09, 2007)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you attend the annual meeting of the German Crystallographic Society
("DGK Jahrestagung") in Bremen (05.-09.03.2007), you should visit our booth
right beneath the registration/internet room, and get your free copy
(CD-ROM) of the PCD beta demoversion! Of course, you can also watch the full
database in the most recent state in action.

In addition to Pearson's Crystal Data, you can have a look at the upcoming
Match! version 2 which will be released in autumn, as well as on the new
Endeavour version 1.5 which allows much more influence on the structure
solution process due to a large variety of "advanced user" options.

Of course, you are also welcome at our booth if you would like to suggest
new features or discuss problems!

Best regards,

Klaus Brandenburg and Holger Putz
