Dear Crystallographers,
The Crystallography Open Database (COD) is now equipped
with a new CIF validation and deposition interface :

which you may use in order to open your crystal data to the
community (either already published or prepublication data
or personnal communication).
The process of files deposition, after you have registered and
uploaded your data is prettty simple. First step is validation.
The COD scripts perform some checks to see if all necessary
data are present in the submitted file. Results are displayed to
you next to your files.
If a file is correct, you can deposit it to COD. After the
deposition, COD numbers for the newly deposited structures
will be displayed.
If a file is not correct you can edit it in your browser windows
and validate it once more.
Currently two types of files are accepted : plain CIF and ZIP
archives containing CIFs.
The interface was tested already on more than 2000 files
depositions.
The growing of the COD content (now ~120000 entries) is
mostly depending on your CIF depositions. You may have
also seen that powder patterns calculated from these data
are openly available to be used for search-match identification
process with several software distributed by Bruker, Crystal
Impact, PANalytical and Rigaku. More is coming.
