Hi Miguel,
We have been using SiemensD5000 with PSD for 3 years now and are quite
happy with it. FWHM that we observe for lantanum hexaboride, which is a
standard substance with no grain size broadening is 0.09 deg (for Ka1 line,
not the dublet) while scintillation counter gives something like 0.05 at
best conditions. This is the price you pay for extremely good statistics.
During 12 hours measurement you get most intense peaks in your pattern
some 200 000 counts high. This quite effectively compensates you the loss of
resolution. My guess is that the detector is either not correctly callibrated
or you use the 8 deg of it's length. Reduce the utilzed range to 4 deg
and inspect the file _cal_psd.raw. You'll see that the resolution of the PSD
is reasonably good onlz close to it's center. E-mail me directly if you need
more explanation.
