The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) offers (although
this is not quite ready for official announcement at the moment)
specialized discussion groups by way of a mail server operated by the
R&D group at the technical editor's office in Chester, UK.
A list can be public, private or restricted (to members of a
committee), moderated or unmoderated, with either a public or private
automatic archive. Web interfaces are available for a user's
administrative interaction with the lists (subscribing, unsubscribing,
etc) and for consulting the list archive. The archive forms an integral
part of the IUCr's mirroring system.
The R&D group looks after the hardware and software side of the
affair. Each list has an 'owner' who has responsibility for overseeing
the operation of the list.
The IUCr would be most happy to act as host for the Rietveld mailing
list if this is the wish of the current subscribers. You have to contact
either the IUCr R&D officer (bm@iucr.org) or the chairman of the IUCr's
EPC (me).
