Apologies if this seems inappropriate for a CCP14 page - but it has taken me over 5 years to find an OCR program that actually works reliably amongst a mass of highly priced commercial software that do not work reliably. It is a big thrill!!! (LMDC - April 2003). Other suggested software welcome. But will be evaluated on "difficult" pages (involving varying background gradients) before software is considered for addition in this page.

Transym OCR (TOCR) for MS-Windows

  • "It's a no frills product with the accent being entirely on accuracy."

  • As of writing (April 2003) - was US $40. Downloadable demonstration version which will OCR 100 pages. The major feature is it actually works reliably, and works on difficult images that require OCR'ing (At present, images need to be converted to BMP or TIF).
