[sdpd] X-ray tube life

Dear All,

My question is regarding the best practice for getting
a good life for X-ray tubes. We have a Panalytical
machine and the suggested lifetime is 2000 h.
The suggested procedure by the vendor is to reduce the
kV/mA to 15 5 and shut down the machine when the
machine is not run for even a couple of hours and
overnight. Does this frequent powering down and
shutting down and switching on affect the X-ray tube
life? Is it better to keep the tube on rather than
this frequent on/off procedure (for short durations
atleast) to get a good life?

I have to add that I am in India and we face frequent
power failures with backups working for only 4-5 hrs.
Can anybody give me some advice on this matter?

Thanks in advance,
nandini
